Service: Getting Involved
SERVICE MEETINGS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Group Level Service
Each Al-Anon group has a number of service positions which usually include Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Literature, Group Representative and Alternate Group Representative. Some groups also have a Program Chair who arranges for speakers to speak at each meeting. All positions other than GR can be filled by Al-Anon members who are also members of AA.
NY South Assembly (Area 40)
GRs represent their groups officially at Assembly and are voting members. However, others are invited to attend and learn more about the NY South area as well as World Service Conference. Meetings take place at Maryknoll, 55 Ryder Road in Ossining.
District Level Service
All Al-Anon members are encouraged to attend these meetings where Group Representatives, District Representatives, Coordinators and Liaisons come together to find ways of bringing the message of Al-Anon to others through Public Outreach Events; Share-A-Day Events; Workshops; Group Support and more. AIS Phone Service Volunteers Needed
This is your opportunity to do 12th step work, “carrying the message” of Al-Anon/Alateen to potential newcomers, professionals, students and current members. Volunteers call the AIS voicemail on one pre-assigned day per week for a 3 to 6 month rotation. Calls are picked up once a day and returned within 24 hours. There are generally from 0 to 2 calls per day. The AIS voicemail is accessed remotely from the comfort of your home or mobile device. This is a very rewarding and important outreach opportunity, often the first contact newcomers have with the Al-Anon/Alateen program. New volunteers are needed on a regular basis. To volunteer or for additional information, please contact Al-Anon Information Service at: mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org
